Description: De Croix to Serra concerning a "donativo" or war contribution from the California missions. In another hand but signed by De Croix. Through its alliance with France and enmity with Britain, Spain played an important role in supporting the American Revolution. One of the methods of support was financial, as demonstrated in this letter. In 1780, King Carlos III asked the subjects of the Spanish Empire, including the territories of the Viceroyalty of New Spain in southern and western North America, to make a monetary contribution to the war efforts.
