Description: "This photo documents the Dubuque, Iowa, chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) marching in the June 6, 1982, demonstration in Springfield, Illinois, in support of the ratification of the federal Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) before the final deadline on June 30. Though Iowa had ratified the amendment just days after its 1972 passage, the ERA remained a key issue for women’s groups in the state throughout the 1970s and 1980s. ALT text: black and white photo of a crowd marching down a daytime street, with two women in the foreground carrying a cloth banner that reads: Even little old ladies from Dubuque need ERA. One of the women has darker skin and an Afro hairstyle and the other has lighter skin and hair. Both wear white shirt and pants, as do several other visible marchers,, though not all."
